Downloading a Plant Partner 5.X or Plant Partner 2000 6.5 Revision file

  1. To download a Revision file, you first must have access to the Internet.
  2. The Starcom web page site is www.starcomsoft.com
  3. After you enter the web site www.starcomsoft.com in your web browser, you will go to Starcom's FTP Server either off of the main page or through the Services pages. Click on the description Plant Partner Version 5 for Windows to download the 5.x revision or click on the description Plant Partner 2000 Version 6.5 for Windows to download the 6.5 revision.
  4. The Revision file name always begins with "REV50" plus 5 numbers. The additional numbers represent the revision number. For example, a 5.075.072 revision file would be called REV5075072.exe.
  5. Note: When you open your Plant Partner, there is a version number on the top left of the window. For Example, 5.075.072. The first number ".075" represents the Sales version number while the second number ".072", represents the production version number.

Select the REV file and double-left click on it. You will be prompted to "Save this Program to Disk"

Note: This message does not mean save to a floppy disk. You will be saving the file to the hard drive of your computer.   Do not save this file on your server..

  6. Now it will ask you where to save the file and what name to call the file. Please do not change the name of the file.
  7. Select a folder on your C:\ drive to save the file in such as C:\Download.
  8. Depending on your Web Browser, click on Save or Next or Open, to start downloading the file.
  9. The download may take some time.

Once the file has finished downloading you need to prepare to "REV UP" your Plant Partner Program.

  1. You should have a current Backup of your live version of Plant Partner. Current means a backup not older than 24 hours. See doc "Here are some Backup Basics for our Starcom Customers."
  2. All users must exit the Plant Partner program. All users must exit both Production & Sales. To verify that all users are out of the system, Open Plant Partner, Sales and go to Utilities Menu. Select Repair Files and select all files. If there are any users in the system other than you, some of the files will not move over to the right to be reindexed. This will mean that other users are in the system. Do not click on the Revision until all users are out of the system
  3. Go to your desktop and right click on the Plant Partner icon. Then click on Properties and select the Shortcut tab. Find where it says, "Start in". This is the path of your Plant Partner software. Please write it down.
  4. Open Windows Explorer and find the REV file you downloaded. Double Click on the REV file and follow the instructions.
  5. You will be prompted for the location of your Plant Partner. This is the path from step 3 that you wrote down. Enter it in here or use the browse button to go and find that directory. Click on Next.
  6. At the end of the setup, click on Finish.
  7. Go to your desktop and open Plant Partner using your desktop icon. Log in and open Production. The program should start updating tables and indexing files. After it is finished the new version number for Production should match the number of the REV file. The Sales version number will still be the same.
  8. Now open Sales. The program will start updating tables and indexing files. After it is finished the new version number  for sales should match the number of the REV file.
  9. Please review your data. Check the last few invoices and look at some Inventory reports. Check the last Forecast in Production.
  10. Optional: You may want to re-index/pack tables (under Utilities) while all users are out of Plant Partner.

Now you are finished and all users can log back  into Plant Partner.
